Hi everyone,
Here's my monthly update for September. It's now 11 months since I started growing my hair out. I'm very happy I've made it this far, but still a long ways to go! Enjoying the journey!
Thanks for the encouragement, David! Yeah I was feeling a bit frustrated yesterday, mostly by the wind but exacerbated by a late bus driver which kept me out in the wind for longer than necessary. I was able to get my hair to lay a bit nicer by applying a small amount of jojoba oil to it once I got to work. It's also been a bit humid lately which always makes my hair flip out more. Anyway, I'm feeling pretty good about my progress overall, definitely have some months of awkwardness yet to go, but my resolve to keep growing is still strong!

Your hair is coming in very nicely indeed, and whatever you do, don’t get frustrated by this stage of the hair growing journey, since it will pass. Also, I remember in one of your earlier posts, that you expressed concerns about your hairline. I see no issues to speak of, and the fact that your front hair is growing right along with the rest is a good sign. I look forward to seeing your hair at mid back level in about 2 years, and you may even decide to go longer still.

Yes I’m glad I’ve reached the full ponytail milestone. Last update I was nearly there, but right now everything fits without falling out.
I use the bun when I shower and don’t want to get my hair wet. Or when it’s very hot and I want my hair out of the way. But 99% of the time i still wear it loose.
I haven’t got a goal in mind, but for now I will keep growing it and will share updates.

What an excellent update, and such great progress for only 16 months. The fact that you’ve been able to do a ponytail and a bun without any hair slipping out of the tie is an excellent sign.
I’m embarrassed to say, that I’ve never done a bun myself. A ponytail is a no brainer, and that’s the usual way that I wear mine, except at home, when it’s down.
I’m looking forward to seeing how long you can grow it, and keep up the good work!

Thank you so much for your kind words. I didn’t do this myself, but a friend’s mom did this for me, while I was on a day trip for my friend’s birthday.
I recently turned 73, and the hair is still there, and there’s tons of the stuff as well. The humidity really “cranks up the volume”, lol.

After a busy period I’m back.
Still growing my hair, here is my 16 months update. Really happy with my progress!
Starting to look like a real longhair again :)
It’s still a bit damp from the shower this morning so slightly less volume and a bit darker. I always let it air dry.
Included ponytail and bun pictures as well.

I was not able to travel there, from my country it was nearly complete but the difference with a full eclipse is very big.
Luckily I travelled to France in 1999 and saw the full eclipse then.

Indeed sometimes weather conditions outside it’s better to wear it tied up. Especially with hair past shoulder length.
I guess to other people it’s barely noticeable but to me it’s a big difference. But still enough hair that it looks good.

I like it better with hair loose, but I agree with longer hair the weight of the hair improves the look. Still in the last part of the awkward stage, but I don’t care.
I wear it in a bun when it’s very hot of when I’m showering and don’t want my hair wet. I can share a picture of that in the future.

Wow, just wow, so you had perfect weather and got to experience it in all its glory! Stunning! I’m really regretting not making the 4 hour drive to New Brunswick in 2024. Although Halifax had 95% or so, and it was fun to follow with my eclipse glasses, it wasn’t nearly the same as experiencing totality in all its glory.

Two hours to wait until the first contact when the Moon begins to hide the Sun. I'm in the middle of the fields, it reminds me the landscapes of the Aéotrain.

That is a cool idea. On Youtube you can find some videos of guys who grew their hair out and took a selfie every day for like 2 or 3 years, and those are really fun to watch and see all the stages their hair went through, and then the end result. I'm not sure if i am disciplined enough to consistently take a selfie every day though, but I do think I'll have at least a monthly timeline I can post once my hair grows past my shoulders to show it's progress/evolution. Still a long ways to go, 5-6 months til it's chin length and probably another year to 18 months after that to get past my shoulders. Onward and downward! :)

Hi David,
I gave up almost all social media in early 2025, and don't miss it much. I do lurk on Reddit sometimes, and I follow the longhair and fierceflow groups there and do love that long haired men post their ‘flows’ there and that those groups are quite active. Since my flow is still a work in progress I haven't posted my hair yet, once it's a bit longer, perhaps. I also have a Youtube channel, but it's not much to speak of. I did subscribe to your channel :)
I commute daily across the Denver metro and I get to see probably a dozen or more long haired men every day on my commute. Although still a minority here, Denver is very long-haired city compared to anyplace else I've lived, so that's enjoyable. And I work on a college campus which is also replete with long haired young men, which is inspirational to see. It's great to see pictures online but it's even better to see longhairs in the wild!
Anyway, speaking of commuting and such, I need to get ready to head out to work. Have a great day!

I hope that you get good weather for the eclipse day itself. That sky doesn’t look particularly promising in this photo, and I sure hope that it clears up in time. We have excellent weather here in Nova Scotia, but the coverage is only around 35%, so I won’t bother. We had perfect weather for the big one in 2024, but my city just missed totality, and it was around 95% here. It was still worth having the eclipse glasses for that one. There was totality in the next province over, New Brunswick, and there were crowds and eclipse parties.
Edited. I see that you’re driving to a more favourable location, and 4 hours is worth it for the event of a lifetime!

The weather is cloudy today. I'll move to the center line of the eclipse, 4 hours of drive. I checked the weather forecast, it should be sunny without clouds.
My hotel is located in the village O Poto De Espasante, the eclipse will be full here but not as long as if you are in the center line of the eclipse.

I'm doing a trip to Spain to see the solar eclipse in the area where the eclipse is full. I had driven all day and now I'm at the hotel. I had a shower and I'm going to sleep because it's 00:49 AM.

I think the coverage here is very minor, about 35%, compared to the major eclipse in 2024, so I probably won’t bother with it. However, I still have my eclipse glasses. There was actually another eclipse midway between the “big one” in 2024, and the upcoming one, which occurred near sunrise, and it seemed that we had decent coverage for it, and I did use the glasses for that one.

I did check that link you posted and moved the globe to the USA and Canada location.There was only one line drawn over that area but when I clicked on it there was a notation that the eclipse would not be visible. Makes sense as no media is talking it up like they did for past events that were visible over the US.

Do you know that you can also see the eclipse? it's visible in your area! You won't experience a full eclipse but you'll see the Moon hide a part of the Sun.

I agree about social media. Instagram is bustling with activity, and there seems to be a million guys with long hair posting daily. I don’t even have Facebook or TikTok. I find it hard enough to stay caught up on Instagram, or Reddit, where I’m also a member. A post on Reddit that I made a few days ago got hundreds of replies, and it’s almost impossible to reply to them all.
I remember when this place was bustling with activity. There are tons of old timers who used to post where, and it would sure be nice to know whatever happened to them. Even Jason, one of the biggest supporters of long hair, seems to have vanished into the woodwork. I think your suggestions are good ones, and I’ve also seen your posts encouraging other long haired guys to check out our little site as well.
That’s cool that you will be able to see a solar eclipse in its full glory. I hope you get perfect weather!

I would have to agree with your assessment of whats going on with the MLHH today.You did a fabulous job recreating the site bringing it to pretty close to current standards.Frankly I checked out hair sites like the one on Reddit and wasn't really all that impressed with it as I feel the MLHH has a better layout plus no pop up ads and such.Also I agree fresh new members are needed as when I look down the directory you have to wonder how many of those guys are still longhairs or worse maybe even passed away.Relying on the old guard isn't gong to cut it as the numbers just aren't there anymore.If you hadn't stepped up to update the site I felt it was destined for extinction since that's what happened to the gay version of this site which was set up the same way by Bill as the old MLHH.
On another subject your trip to Spain sounds really cool.I wasn't even aware there was an eclipse coming up.Can't wait to see what you post here on that adventure.Cheers.

If we compare to the last month, your hair are slightly longer. Hair grows at about 1 cm per month.
Fun thing to do: take one photo every month by trying to keep the same position and lighting then, do an animated sequence so we can see hair growing in fast motion!

Before getting started, I just wanted to say that it saddens me a little to see so little activity on our new version of the MLHH, Both Jesus, and also Mark, have worked long and hard to improve our site, and make it more appealing as well to the “newer” guys growing their hair out. It’s hard to compete with social media these days, but there’s something special about this little place. It’s small, but has a homey feel, and I’d hate to see it die.
The site had high activity for one month after the update, but now the activity has declined, we need to have new members, but it's difficult to recruit. I know that's really hard to fight against all these social media; they are jails that keep users in their ecosystem. I did Instagram and Facebook pages for my website, but I got zero success; nobody came to visit my website, and publications got almost no views. It's hard to fight against the algorithms.
On long hair groups on social media, I say, "Please visit the mlhh.org" in the comments when I see someone awesome but with no luck. People don't try to escape from these social media app. It's sad because the MLHH is the biggest resource on the Internet for long-haired men, from hair care to various testimonies; we should have more people here. We have 30 years of long hair history!
Tomorrow, I'm going to Spain to see the solar eclipse, it'll be my first total eclipse. I hope they speak English or French because I don't speak Spanish. I'll try to post some stuff about this journey.
I think that the MLHH should have a section for various discussions. It's common on many forums, you have a section to talk about any subject, we can better know each other and discover new things, it was the social section of forums.

I’m glad that you’re going to reach out on Facebook, and I hope that at least that will help to generate more traffic here. I’m not on Facebook, but I am on Instagram, and also Reddit. I did try looking for you on Instagram, but I’ve had no luck finding you, and I don’t know your user name there if you have an account. Jesus and I do follow each other, as well as OAD, who posts here occasionally, but quite rarely.
One person I’ve been wondering about is Jason, always a good friend, and I’ve met him 3 separate times, including his wedding. My search for him on Instagram came up empty, but again, if he has an account there , I don’t know his user name. Since you’re on Facebook, and I recall Jason saying one time that he was on Facebook, maybe you could seek him out and ask whether he still has his long hair, and whether he could update us here.

Thank you so much for your kind words, and I feel fortunate to have so much hair at my age. It was a lovely birthday, but the heat has been relentless lately. It’s unusual to get so much heat in Nova Scotia, and I’m looking forward to fall.
I was wondering whether you’re on any other social media sites? I seem to recall that you subscribed to my YouTube channel. I also post on Reddit, and much more recently, Instagram, but I’m not on Facebook . Although the activity at those two sites (especially Instagram) is on a totally different level than here, there’s just something “homey” about the MHLL, and I hope that it stays alive.

It's a bit of a patience process since there's no way to rush these thing unfortunately. Hope your summer is going well as its been
very hot, humid, and at times rainy in my area.Still I'll take summer over the bitter cold of winter which will get here soon enough.

As much as we hate to see the years click on by the fact we are still here running around with our long manes year after year is better
than the alternative.You look great for your age and the fact you still have a full head of long hair is amazing.It's nice that your were able

As far as the MLHH traffic I too noticed after a nice flurry of activity once the new site launched it sort of leveled off.Maybe its because its
summer and guys are doing things out in the real world. Let's see what happens come the fall season.Still I'm surprised by the drop off
in posting as the new version is much more appealing and up to current standards.I'm also a bit surprised Jason hasn't chimed in since the
new version came online.I should reach out to him on FB and give him a nudge but I know he's very busy with his life. Anyway great post David

I agree it's sad that this site doesn't get more traffic, but as you say it's hard to compete with social media that already has built-in thousands or millions of users. There is something special about this place and hopefully it will get more use in time. I'll always have a soft spot for the MLHH!

Now onto my main post. Today, I turned 73, and am pleased to say that I still have a lot of hair. With the recent heat and humidity, it does have some bad effects on my hair, such as frizz, but it also has the effect of “cranking up the volume”.
Photos 1 and 3 are photos I took yesterday, when the humidity was doing its thing. It’s a lot of hair, lol! Sorry for the hair over one eye thing, but I wanted to show the thickness better that way.
The second photo shows me about to dig into a feed of clams and chips at a nearby restaurant. My brother took me there for clams, and then we had home made cheesecake afterwards.
On a further note, please note that the photos are out of order. I wanted to put the two hair photos first, and the clams photo third. However, the site didn’t upload the first one properly the first time, and I had to add it again, this time as the third photo.

You’re making excellent progress, and your hair almost covers your ears now, and I estimate that chin length is about 3 inches away, or 6 months. It looks as though everything is good in the hair line department as well.
I’ll be celebrating my 73rd birthday tomorrow, so I’m just a tiny bit older than you, lol.

Thank you for your kind words. I didn’t get any pointers or anything, but Jesus gave me some pointers in an earlier post on here. I agree that mastering the art of working behind one’s back is on a different level with a braid, since there are three sections to work with. A ponytail is so much easier, and I can whip one of those up in no time flat.
You should still have enough length for a decent, but shorter one, than mine. I have seen guys with decent braids with half my length, especially if there is decent thickness as well.
At least you’ve mastered a bun, which is a good thing. I know that a bun is supposed to be easy, but I’ve never tried it myself, and just doing the ponytail is good for me.

Have to admit your braid looks great as it was convenient you were at an event with someone present who was willing and able to do it for you.I suppose should you decide to do one yourself you'd have to master working behind your head to pull it off.To me that's the challenge if you enjoy having a braid.I suppose in time you could learn how to do it yourself so did that person who made yours give you pointers on self braiding? I've never done a braid on my own hair but frankly I don't feel its long enough to make a decent length braid since I think they look better with much longer hair. I was never a fan of those short rat tails that some guys have so for the most part I just bun my hair when out and about and wear it loose at home.Other than that I trust the party was a lot of fun as road trips are always nice for a change of scenery.Cheers!

Thank you for your kind words. I’ve been planning this short road trip for quite some time, and I knew that it was the best opportunity to get my hair braided and show a photo, and I’m glad that it all came to fruition.
Wearing the braid did feel a bit odd, and I wore it for an hour or two. However, I switched back to a ponytail after that, and wore it for that second photo. I loosened the tail just before we had a short swim in a nearby lake, and I just wore it loose for the rest of the day, to allow it to dry more quickly.

You'll need a single point light to have a sharp shadow, a phone flashlight do the job and a camera tripod to hold the camera and avoid blur.

That's what I like with long hair, you can have multiples hairstyles.
